Cat2 Reflector Category 2 reflector, used in areas of medium VDU use
diffuser the part of a luminaire that distributes the light emitted by the lamp
EPOS Electronic Point Of Sale
fitting a luminaire without a lamp
fluorescent lamp a gas filled envelope with an internal phosphor coating incorporating electrodes
halogen gas used in a lamps construction
high frequency ballast gear required to strike and run a fluorescent tube
housing the body of a luminaire
illuminance the luminous flux incidence (commonly "amount" of light)
lamp any number of devices that produce illumination
light bulb commonly used term for any lamp
low voltage common term for SELV, typically 12v
luminaire the equipment containing a lamp
lux the unit of illuminance, equal to 1 lumen per m²
mains voltage common term for 240v
Passive Infra-Red typically PIR, equipment allowing the switching of circuits upon detection of a body of heat
photocell equipment used to switch circuits at adjustable light levels

running gear equipment required to illuminate a lamp i.e. ballast, transformer
SELV Safety Extra Low Voltage, operating at 50v or less

transformer equipment used to reduce mains voltage to SELV
tungsten material used in a lamps filament construction
VDU Visual Display Unit (typically a computer screen, television)
1st Fix usually, that part of an electrical installation that is not visible on completion
